Description
Exploring Expressive Cloudscapes
An acrylic and oil painting workshop with Charlotte Aiken
Saturday 2nd November 2024
10am – 4pm
Attic Studio
All abilities welcome
During this day workshop you will turn a cloudscape into an expressive acrylic and oil painting.
The session will be broken down into an introduction to oils and mark-making, working with acrylic washes on canvas, experimental oil colour studies, and moving on to combining the techniques on your canvas. You will work with acrylic, oil, rags, and brushes, with the option to add other media.
The workshop will provide you with the skill to experiment with oil paint and the freedom to play with colour and mark-making. Charlotte believes in creating a relaxed environment, where students feel confident to create, without the pressure of expectations.

About Charlotte
Charlotte’s paintings are informed by her fascination with clouds and the notion of infinity. She works on large-scale paintings using her own cloud photography to structure her compositions. Often working with decorating brushes to accentuate imperfection and texture, recreating an impression of the sky rather than an accurate portrayal. Charlotte graduated from the School of Art, Architecture and Design, London in 2017. Shortly after, she won the Graduate Art Prize with ARTIQ, London. Her artwork has since been featured in exhibitions across London and Surrey, including the 2023 Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition.
Charlotte is a qualified secondary school art teacher who is passionate about sharing her creative expertise. In 2019, she volunteered as an art teacher for Sebs Schools in Southern India, where she conducted workshops for underprivileged schools and tribal communities. Charlotte has been teaching art since 2017, alongside working on her own practice. Now a full-time artist based in Stroud, working from SVA studios, Charlotte enjoys teaching and tutoring. https://charlotteaiken.co.uk/
